What’s new in Kali 2019.4

1. New Desktop Environment

So now Kali decided to adopt a new desktop environment: Xfce, because developers have always opt for a GNOME environment since it was born. The main difference between these two DE (Desktop Environment) is the resource consuming. Xfce consume much lesser than GNOME and for that it’s better suited for Kali, an OS where users (hackers and pentesters) want speed and efficiency.

Another reason for choosing Xfce is the possibilty for users to have the same UI (User Interface) on all devices. For example, before the last version there were different downloads available even for ARM-based systems, like the Rasperry Pi.

If you want to switch to Xfce enter the following command:

 $ apt -y install kali-desktop-xfce

2. Kali Undercover

Born to satisfy Pentester and Hacker’s necessity of working in public. It’s a Kali Theme that looks like Windows. You will work a little bit more incognito that way!

3. PowerShell

Now you are able to execute scripts for Windows directly on the PowerShell, in order to let researchers to test them. If it’s not preinstalled type in the terminal the following command:

$ sudo apt-get install powershell

Then type $ pwsh to run powershell.

4. NetHunter Kex

NetHunter Kex allows users to have the full system on the own phone. With an HDMI output and a Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse you’re able to get every tool readly avaible to be executed anywhere. The only requirement is to have a powerful enough smartphone.
